The California personal injury law firm of Estey & Bomberger, LLP is proud to have received an AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Our track record of success and high ethical standards has earned us the highest respect of our peers, as evidenced by our AV-rating – the highest possible mark given to select attorneys and law firms (a law firm is given the rating of its highest rated active partner). As stated on Martindale-Hubbell’s website, an AV® certification mark is a significant rating accomplishment - a testament to the fact that a lawyer's peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence. A lawyer must be admitted to the bar for 10 years or more to receive an AV® rating.
What is Martindale-Hubbell?
Martindale-Hubbell has been a respected source of authoritative and dependable information about attorneys and other members of the legal community in the Unites States, Canada and throughout the world for more than 130 years. The Martindale Directory was first published by James B. Martindale in 1868. Attorney ratings were added to the directory in 1896, and in 1930 the Martindale Company purchased the publishing rights to Hubbell’s Legal Directory. Still today, those needing legal services and other attorneys consider Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings invaluable.
What Are Peer Review Ratings?
Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings are the oldest and most widely used indicators of an attorney’s professional abilities and ethical standards. An attorney and law firm’s peer review rating consists of two components: Legal Ability Ratings and General Ethical Standards Ratings.
Legal Ability Ratings
Legal Ability Ratings consider an attorney’s professional abilities in their practice area, along with expertise and other qualifications. Legal abilities ratings may be one of the following:
C: Good to High
B: High to Very High
A: Very High to Preeminent
General Ethical Standards
General Ethical Standards make up the second component of a peer review rating, although a lawyer will not be eligible to receive a Legal Ability Rating unless he has been endorsed with a “V” (very high) – the general recommendation rating for General Ethical Standards. The General Ethical Standards Rating indicates an attorney meets professional standards of ethics and conduct, diligence reliability, and other professional criteria.
How Are Peer Review Ratings Determined?
The Martindale-Hubbell Ratings System utilizes the confidential opinions of other attorneys and judges, including both those who have received peer review ratings and those who have not. Additionally, Martindale-Hubbell representatives personally interview other attorneys to discuss lawyers under review. These opinions are compiled with other information from various sources.
The Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers
As an AV-Rated law firm, Estey & Bomberger, LLP is also proud to be included in Martindale-Hubbell’s Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers™ which includes only those select law practices that have earned the highest rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and have been designated by their colleagues as preeminent in their field.
