Pedestrian Struck and Killed Wednesday in Hemet

FEBRUARY 26, 2009 – John Thomas O’Connell, 64, of Hemet, was killed Wednesday evening after he was truck by a car in Hemet, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office has reported. O’Connell was struck by a Ford Taurus at about 4:30 p.m. while crossing West Florida Avenue, east of Gilmore Street in Riverside County. The car was moving at about 30 mph, according to reports. O’Connell was pinned under the car, and firefighters had to lift it off of him. He was taken to Hemet Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 5:30 p.m. The Hemet Police Department is investigating.
