JULY 1, 2009 – A city garbage truck struck and killed a bicyclist in South Fresno, authorities said. The Reedley Sanitation truck appeared to be making a right-hand turn at the intersection of North and Chestnut avenues when the bicyclist was struck about 10:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was apparently riding on the right-hand side of the truck at the time of the collision, authorities said. The man, described as in his 60s, died at the scene. The CHP is currently investigating the accident.
