Man Died Tuesday in Lodi Crash that Involved Stolen Motorcycle

JULY 1, 2009 – A 50-year-old resident of Galt was killed on motorcycle that had been reported stolen a few hours earlier, authorities said. Witnesses said the unidentified man was driving west on Walnut Grove Road near Staten Island Road at more than 100 mph when he failed to negotiate a curve on the black 2007 Yamaha RS, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim drove off the north shoulder and crashed. A helicopter was called in to transport the man to a hospital, but he was declared dead before it arrived, the CHP said. The motorcycle had been reported stolen in Davis, according to the Davis Police Department. The owner had put the bike in the bed of a pick-up truck following a traffic collision, then discovered it had been stolen from the truck some time between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m., police said. The CHP is investigating the crash.
