JULY 2, 2009 – A 66-year-old woman was killed when her vehicle overturned on Highway 50, authorities said. The unidentified woman was driving east on Hwy 50 at Echo Summit about 11:15 a.m., when she lost control of the Dodge pickup truck she was driving and swerved across a lane of oncoming traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car hit an embankment alongside the highway and overturned. The woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, the CHP said, but the accident remains under investigation.
