JULY 14, 2009 – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a solo-vehicle rollover that killed one man and injured four other occupants of the sports utility vehicle. The victim, identified only as a 26-year-old man from Fairfield, was ejected from the 1996 Chevy Tahoe when it overturned on Interstate 5 near the Kasson Road exit about 10:15 a.m., according to the CHP. The accident occurred when the driver of the SUV attempted to change lanes while traveling north on I-5 at approximately 70-80 mph, authorities said. The driver spotted another car in the same lane and swerved back, but lost control of the vehicle. The Tahoe hit the Kasson Road exit sign and then rolled several times, coming to rest on its roof in a dirt field. The victim was transported to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to severe head injuries about 11:16 a.m., officials said. The four remaining occupants of the vehicle had minor lacerations and were transported to various local hospitals.
