Maclaren Recalls One Million Strollers After Children Lose Fingertips

NOVEMBER 9, 2009 – In cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), stroller manufacturer Maclaren is voluntarily recalling one million umbrella strollers sold in the United States since 1999. According to Maclaren, the stroller’s hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is unfolding/opening the stroller.

The Maclaren USA buggy recall includes 11 different models: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller (all models sold in the US since 1999). According to the CPSC website, 15 children have reportedly lost the tips of their fingers from the strollers. Maclaren is providing a free kit to all consumers that consists of hinge covers to protect the strollers. Parents are advised to stop using the strollers until the repair kits have been installed.

If your child suffered a laceration or finger dismemberment from a Maclaren, stroller, contact Estey & Bomberger at (800) 925-0723 for a free consultation. Your child may be entitled to compensation for their injuries.
