EL DORADO COUNTY – Four people, including two children, were tragically killed and four people were injured in a car accident that took place on U.S. Route 50 near Placerville Saturday night. A California Highway Patrol spokesman said the accident occurred when a Toyota Prius traveling on Highway 50 crossed the center line and broadsided a Toyota Sienna minivan.
Three of the four Prius passengers were killed in the collision, including the driver of the vehicle and an 8-year-old boy. The other Prius passenger, a 10-year-old girl, was hospitalized with severe injuries. Of the five Sienna minivan passengers, a 4-year-old girl sustained fatal injuries and two passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Investigators pulled computers from both vehicles to determine how fast the vehicles were traveling at the time of the crash, but did not know the cause of the devastating November 24, 2012 crash.
